The organizations listed below offer referrals to social and other services such as counselling, and support to ASL-communicating older adults seeking help or general information.
BOB RUMBALL CENTRE FOR THE DEAF
SERVICES OFFERED:
- Social Services
Offers transportation to appointments, communicator/intervener services, and in-home assistance from support workers.
CANADIAN HEARING SOCIETY
SERVICES OFFERED:
- Social Services
Provides counselling to deaf individuals and older adults with hearing loss, as well as sales, installation and training on a wide range of communication devices.
THE CANADIAN HELEN KELLER CENTRE
SERVICES OFFERED:
- Social Services
Offers in-home functional assessments, assistance with skills of daily living, case management, and referrals to other services.
DEAF LITERACY INITIATIVE
SERVICES OFFERED:
- Social Services
Provides culturally-relevant training, research and networking resources.
THE LIONS FOUNDATION OF CANADA DOG GUIDES
SERVICES OFFERED:
- Social Services
Offers hearing guide dogs for those who are deaf or hard of hearing.
SILENT VOICE

Empowering Deaf Adults through an array of accessible direct client services and educational programming in ASL
TORONTO CENTRAL LHIN
SERVICES OFFERED:

Connects clients with a broad range of supports including home, community and long-term care services.
ADULT DAY PROGRAMS
The following Adult Day Programs provide recreational programs and opportunities for ASL-communicating older adults to socialize and stay active through physical activity. Many day programs have a variety of staff that include activity coordinators, social workers and nurses.

Offers program that allows deaf older adults to meet on Tuesday afternoons for games and social activities.
HOUSING SERVICES
The organizations below offer housing and support services including recreational activities, social programs, and health care services for ASL-communicating older adults.
BOB RUMBALL CENTRE FOR THE DEAF
SERVICES OFFERED:
Housing Services
- Offers a Seniors’ Supportive Housing program that provides one- or two-bedroom apartments to deaf older residents with day-to-day support in an environment that promotes and protects deaf culture, language and heritage.
SILENT VOICE
SERVICES OFFERED:
Housing Services
- Provides support to deaf people who need housing by coordinating with other agencies and services.
HEALTH SERVICES
FIND AN ASL-COMMUNICATING DOCTOR
Go to cpso.on.ca, and select “Find a Doctor” under the Public Information and Services Tab at the top. You will see a form, select American Sign Language for language of service, and enter other terms you would like to search for, such as location. Click “Submit” at the bottom of the page.
FIND A DENTIST
Go to rcdso.org, click on Find a Dentist, then click Search a Dentist. Enter as many search terms as you wish (such as city and specialty) and press Search.
FIND AN OPTOMETRIST
Go to collegeoptom.on.ca, click on Find an Optometrist. Enter your location and press Search.
FIND A PHARMACY
Go to ocpinfo.ca, click on Public, then click Find a Pharmacy. Enter your location and press Search.
