About the Orthogeriatrics Service
The Orthogeriatrics Service provides specialized orthopedic care to older patients admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital with a hip fracture. This unique service is made up of geriatricians, hospitalists, orthopedic surgeons and an interprofessional team of nurses, therapists, pharmacists and social workers who provide collaborative care for these older patients who are at a higher risk for negative outcomes.
Our Geriatricians support these patients and the other members of their care team by conducting Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments within 24 hours of being admitted to hospital that help to identify any underlying geriatric health issues that may have gone undetected. Our Geriatricians also make comprehensive and personalized care recommendations to improve the overall care plan and reduce the future incidence of common issues such as falls and delirium that occur in these older patients, while increasing the likelihood that they will eventually return home with renewed independence.
How to Get Referred
Orthogeriatrics Patients are identified by their orthopedic teams during their admission to hospital from the Emergency Department with a Hip Fracture.
