About the Geriatric Psychiatry Consultation Service
The Geriatric Psychiatry Consultation Service is a specialized, intensive, interprofessional clinical service that provides patient-and family-centred psychiatric assessments and treatment recommendations for older patients admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment of medical or surgical illnesses. The Service is comprised of Geriatric Psychiatrists and Geriatric Psychiatry Clinical Nurse Specialists who work closely with medical, surgical and emergency department physicians and their teams to provide customized care plans for older patients with acute mental health issues. Patients requiring ongoing care after leaving the hospital may be referred to the Outpatient Geriatric Psychiatry Clinic or another appropriate service.
How to Get Referred
Patients are typically referred to the Geriatric Psychiatry Consultation Service by their treating physician or teams in either the Emergency Department or once hospitalized by their Medical or Surgical care team.
