The National Institute on Ageing (NIA), founded in February 2016, conducts cross-disciplinary policy-oriented research into the physical, social, psychological and financial wellness of older Canadians to enable them to remain independent, engaged, healthy and productive members of our society.
By hosting conferences and events, the NIA aims to further build relationships and share its expertise with other universities, all levels of government, and other national, international and global organizations to support the development of innovative policies and ways to address the unique needs of our ageing population.
The NIA is quickly being recognized as a leading national voice on ageing-related issues, from retirement and housing to health and social wellness issues. The NIA further serves as the academic home for the National Seniors Strategy (NSS), an evolving evidence-based policy document co-authored by a group of leading researchers, policy experts and stakeholder organizations and first published in October, 2015.
